The AL Central is going from one of the weakest divisions to one of the strongest. Just from moves made in the last 24 hours.

The Detroit Tigers though hope to stay the favorites after they are reportedly not afraid to spend “big” money on free agent Max Scherzer according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Scherzer, who is coming off another terrific season, is considered one of the top three free agents of this year. He was the ace of the Tigers staff once again and the Tigers hope that continues.

There all bunch of reports saying that Detroit was moving on from Scherzer, but due to the moves that the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians made recently, they hope to keep that A+ rotation of Scherzer, Justin Verlander, David Price, Anibal Sanchez, and Rick Porcello together. The 30 year old, who was coming off a Cy Young Award winning year, pitched a 3.15 ERA and a 18-5 record last year and the best pitcher on the Tigers.

David Price was traded for at the deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays and was believed to take the place of Scherzer after the season but it is now said they will keep Price and try to retain Scherzer.

So what does that mean for newly acquired Shane Greene? Greene was acquired from the New York Yankees in a three team trade with the Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said that Greene was going to be at the end of the rotation. So does he move to the bullpen or does Dombrowski trade Porcello away for a bullpen pitcher and even a outfield bat that they need desperately.

Porcello and Price have been getting interest but Dombrowski had said that the team is not looking to trade them. It makes sense to trade Porcello and keep Price for even just this season. The Boston Red Sox had even offered Yoenis Cespedes for Porcello but talks died down.

The Tigers need to make another move other than just re-sign Scherzer to contend.
